"Sometimes it takes the helping hands of others to wipe away the past and bring a fresh face to life."
- Dr. Russell Kridel
In 1995, world renowned Houston facial plastic surgeon, Russell Kridel, MD, established The Face Foundation charitable program. Through The Face Foundation, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney provide surgical care at no fee to financially disadvantaged individuals who are survivors of domestic violence and need to receive restorative or reconstructive facial plastic surgery, especially battered women and children.
Sadly, the results of head and neck injuries can be a daily reminder to survivors of domestic violence. Having witnessed the traumatic and disfiguring head and neck injuries of countless victims of domestic violence throughout his career, Dr. Kridel wanted to provide an avenue for survivors without the financial means to obtain quality facial plastic surgery assistance to help them regain a sense of inner and outer beauty.
Through The Face Foundation, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney provide surgical services at no charge. In addition, some hospitals also donate resources such as operating rooms, nursing staff time and supplies and the services of an anesthesiologist. The total average benefit to each patient is often in excess of $10,000.The Face Foundation also provides education and training in facial plastic surgery and helps organize workshops to educate other physicians, publish articles to educate the public and fund research.
Surgery on battered women participating in The Face Foundation program is done in conjunction with the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) FACE TO FACE: The National Domestic Violence Project. The AAFPRS Foundation partners with Break the Silence Foundation (BTSF) which is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to work with domestic violence victims and their families, through crisis intervention, advocacy, self-improvement, healthy relationship workshops, self-defense and workforce development.
Qualified patients interested in pursuing assistance by Dr. Russell Kridel or Dr. Sean Delaney through The Face Foundation must meet minimum requirements and submit a completed AAFPRS/BTSF Application for consideration. The application will be reviewed by BTSF and approved applications will be submitted to AAFPRS FACE TO FACE: The National Domestic Violence Project team. The AAFPRS will match the approved application with our practice. BTSF will provide contact information for the survivor to make an appointment for a consultation with FPSA. During the consultation the surgeon will outline what can and cannot be done to achieve the goals desired and confirm participation in The Face Foundation program.

The Face Foundation depends on kind and generous people like you to make a difference. Although surgeons provide their time and expertise at no cost, funds are still needed for anesthesia, supplies, recovery facilities, prescription drugs, dressings and incidentals, charges not donated by the hospital and staff coordination.
The Face Foundation is a non-profit organization. It is exempt from Federal Income Tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Therefore, all donations qualify as charitable contributions for tax purposes.
