History: This 34-year-old patient was concerned with breathing problems and allergies as well as headaches. Her main complaints were inability to breathe through the nose as well as being discontented with the appearance of her nose. Examination revealed a twisted and deviated nose in the middle and right side with her septum deviated to the left side. The nostrils were noted to be asymmetrical with a slight nostril flare.

Procedures: Rhinoplasty, Septoplasty.

Treatment: An open primary rhinoplasty removed the nasal hump. A septoplasty improved her breathing through her nose. Her allergy symptoms were improved following the procedure.

Aesthetic nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, involves reshaping the nose to improve its appearance. Typical steps include removing a nasal hump, reducing an enlarged tip or improving a poor angle between the nose and the upper lip. Reconstructive rhinoplasty is performed to correct birth defects and disfigurement resulting from injury. It may also be done in conjunction with techniques to relieve nasal obstruction due to an internal deformity such as a deviated septum. (The septum is the partition between the right and left nasal airways.)
