Holiday Wish List

It is hard to believe that the holidays are just around the corner and will be here before you know it. For many, this also means that you may be visiting with friends and family members that you have not seen in a long time or that you may be attending holiday parties and want to look your best.

During this time of year, it is not unusual for patients bothered by the appearance of their nose to be more uncomfortable or sensitive because the feel their nose doesn't fit the rest of their features -- too big, too long, too wide, to bold or droopy. So, it is also not unusual for patients to decide that they prefer a new nose or a new face for the holidays rather than gifts.

We have found that November and December are a popular time for nasal surgery. Patients often use their long scheduled holiday vacations, un-used vacation days or time off from school to have Rhinoplasty surgery so that they can have a new look in time for holiday events or to kick off the new look in time for holiday events or to kick off the new year with renewed confidence. This is especially true for students, who don“t want to use their summer vacations for surgery or restrict their athletic endeavors after surgery during the healing phase.

Many have been toying with the idea of getting a 'nose job' but have questions about the process.

How much time do I need to take off ?
Rhinoplasty surgery usually requires 7 - 10 days off from work or school, by which time all tape and splints are off and most bruising is gone. Most patients should avoid strenuous activities for 6 weeks after surgery.

Most of our patients notice dramatic improvement as soon as the protective splint is removed at about 5 days post- surgery. Althogh the majority of swelling lasts for a few weeks, your nose will look better and better every day. you will be ready for the upcoming holiday gettogethers within two weeks. it can take up to a year for the final nose to have matured into the desired goal.

Does it hurt?
Very few of our patients report much, if any discomfort. The days of significant nasal packing are over. Dr. Kridel removes the soft material placed in the nose on your visit the first day after surgery. The nose is protected with an external splint for a week.

What do I look for in a Doctor?
You want to have it done right the first time. Whether you select. Dr. Kridel or another surgeon, we always recommend that you select a doctor who is both a specialist in the nasal airway, as well as facial aesthetics. I t is not just about having an attractive nose, it is also important that you can breathe well after the surgery. If a doctor improves the look of your nose at the expense of your breathing, you will end up with a new problem. It is also important that you make sure the surgeon performs over 50 cosmetic nasal surgeries each year. Find and expert who is recognized by his peers and patients as the best. These are difficult surgeries, so you should select someone with significant experience and skill.

Certainly, there are many more questions that you or a loved one may have regarding nasal surgery. Please feel free to schedule a consultation and our staff and Dr. Kridel will be happy to discuss your individual needs.
