How Does Ruby Laser Therapy Work?
The Q-switched ruby laser emits short pulses of intense red light which pass harmlessly through normal skin where it is selectively absorbed by the tattoo ink. The laser energy breaks the tattoo ink into minute particles that are easily removed by your body's immune system. Any large particles of ink that are not completely fragmented may require additional treatments, and the tattoo gradually fades. Normal skin is not harmed by the treatment. Only the ink is removed, and your skin is left intact.
What Results Can I Expect?
The Spectrum RD-1200T provides the best results available for the removal of tattoos. It can significantly lighten or remove most tattoo inks. How well your tattoo responds depends on several factors. For example, amateur tattoos usually contain less ink than professional tattoos and they respond more quickly to treatments. Also, darker inks such as black, blue and green are often easier to remove than red or yellow inks.
Does It Hurt?
To begin the fading process, laser light is traced over the tattoo. The laser does not burn or cut your skin in any way. Each laser pulse may feel like a rubber band snapping against your skin and covers an area approximately the size of a pencil eraser. If your tattoo is very large, you may choose to have local anesthesia, but this is usually not necessary.
What Happens After The Treatment?
Immediately after laser exposure, the treated area turns white and swells slightly. This whiteness usually fades within 20 to 60 minutes. Over the next several days a scab or thin crust may form. The area usually returns to normal in seven to ten days.
How Long Does It Take for tattoo removal?
Depending on the size and location of the tattoo, a typical session runs from five to thirty minutes. The number of treatments you will require depends on the size of your tattoo as well as its location, depth, and color. Amateur tattoos usually require only three to five treatments, while professional tattoos may require additional treatment sessions. Treatments should be spaced six to eight weeks apart to allow your immune system to remove the maximum amount of ink. You will notice the tattoo slowly fading
between treatments as your body continues to remove the ink.
Is The Procedure Safe?
The Spectrum RD-1200T Q-switched ruby laser is FDA-cleared for tattoo removal and has been used successfully for thousands of treatments worldwide. Although there may be some temporary lightening of the surrounding skin, this treatment does not affect normal surrounding skin structures because only the tattoo ink absorbs the laser light. Due to the excellent results and lack of side effects, members of the American Academy of Dermatology have chosen the ruby laser
as the treatment of choice for tattoo removal.
Are There Any Treatment Alternatives?
Other methods of tattoo removal include surgical excision (cutting the tattoo out), dermabrasion (scrubbing the skin away), salabrasion (using salt to abrade the tattoo) and chemical peels (using acid to burn away layers of skin). These methods are painful, expensive and may result in scarring. Other types of lasers can also treat tattoos, but none are as effective
as the Q-switched ruby laser.
How Much Will It Cost?
The cost to remove a tattoo depends on the number of treatments you need, which in turn depends on the size, location, depth, and color of your tattoo.
