Each day, thousands of skin cells die and are replaced by new ones --
a slow process that doesn't allow your skin to shed dark spots or sun-damaged, lifeless skin. What's helpful are skin treatments that create an even, controlled shedding of several layers of damaged cells.

Skin treatments come in a variety of depths, from superficial to very deep . The type you need depends on the severity of skin damage you have. The chemical peel described above is for deeply etched lines. If you need only a freshening effect, you can try having an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) peel or the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, both of which make your skin look brighter and younger.

AHA and TCA peels significantly improve the appearance of fine lines, giving you a more even texture and color.

The more superficial the treatment, the less time you'll spend without makeup. Typically, you won't apply cosmetics for seven days following a TCA peel. If you have an AHA peel, you can reapply makeup a few minutes later.

To help maintain your 'fresh' skin after treatment, you should use the AHA home maintenance products .

It's also a good idea to have a refresher peel every few months or yearly, as desired.
