Just like using sandpaper to remove scratches from furniture, Dr. Kridel can polish rough or scarred skin to restore smoother texture using microdermabrasion. Dermabrasion reduces pits caused by severe acne and modifies the appearance of facial scars.
How does it work?
Facial sanding can be done under local anesthesia, but larger areas may require hospitalization and general anesthesia. After you are sedated, your skin will be numbed with a freezing agent. Then, Dr. Kridel will use a rotating brush to "sand" off the top layers of your skin during your dermabrasion. It takes about 15 minutes for a small area and about 90 minutes for your entire face.
What happens after the dermabrasion?
After dermabrasion, the treated area will look like a skinned knee. It will ooze fluid. This improves after 24 hours. The area isn't bandaged, and you will wash it often and apply medical ointment to help prevent crust formation and promote healing.
When your new skin appears, it will probably be red for some time. Eventually, over a few months, it will fade to a lighter tone. About a week after microdermabrasion, you can use makeup to hide the discoloration and resume normal activities. It's important to avoid direct sunlight for several months after surgery.
